Hello everyone, my name is Kirill, I am a UX/UI designer, always ready for new challenges. This project was my first challenge because I had no idea about what WCAG is at all, but it only pushed me to become more involved in the project, and now you can see the labours of my activity. I am very glad that I had the opportunity to work on this project with Victoria. I learned a lot and I’m sure it will help me in my future career.

About A11YS

A11YS is meant to serve as an easy search for WCAG criteria and code, that includes a checklist, demos and how to test topics. For MVP we started with the Checklist, the rest will follow.

A11YS checklist uses The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) which is the source of truth for WCAG and our goal is to update the information once there are new updates released. WCAG is a shared standard for organisations concerning accessibility in applications some of which are obligatory for e.g. public sector organisations.

Accessibility compliance in WCAG has three levels of priority: A, AA, AAA. Ideally you would like to aim a minimum of AA to make your application accessible and the best would be AAA, of course.

Our checklist targets multiple levels and we do not guarantee that your website will be totally accessible if you follow it, but you will be very close.

The project followed a Design process (Double Diamond) where we started from Discovery to Deliver of en product. We decided on producing an MVP focusing on a Checklist first and develop this site further while collecting feedback. During our research potential user’s mentioned they had difficulties understanding WCAG from the original website due to information load and difficult access to the exact information they were looking for. To make this project feel playful and close to the target audience we chose a retro pixel design. We worked in FigJam, Figma and used WordPress as our content management system (CMS) also used themes as Material design and lots of custom coding.
